Eli Rivers
My daughter lives in Colorado and requested for Christmas a painting of water because she missed Maine's coast. I had never studied water before and enjoyed the process.
A frequent criticism I felt of my prior work (circa 1970s) was a never-ending effort for perfectionism. I made a strong effort to leave this painting as fresh and loose as reasonable. In it, you will find some remnants of my grid and different levels of paint thickness. I deliberately left the image loosely defined; the woman's face is sun bleached and areas of reflections are also applied quickly. This painting works best underlit and is not to be scrutinized under intense light.
