My son's clothing and toys provided the subject for Day's End Still Life, an oil on canvas still life. The focus was placed on completing individual items within the picture, with the background being completed last. The most difficult part of this process was perfecting the color; thankfully, I was supported by an incredible teacher and mentor. This was the first time I had used oil as a medium.
The subject of Container Still Life was a simple arrangement of containers used in a bygone era— a jug, milk pail and coffee pot. This was the first time I used the medium of charcoal, which I found to be extremely forgiving. To complete a piece of this size requires focus on parts, not the whole. Although I have taken a hiatus from art, I hope to continue to create art using charcoal in the near future.
