George Blanchard with Bull, Broadmoor Farm, Main Street, Cumberland, Maine

In 1829, Nathaniel Blanchard bought the land at the corner of Main Street and Tuttle Road from Joel Prince.

His son, Capt. Enos Blanchard, took over the farm in 1833, and his wife, Joanna, managed it while he was away at sea.

In 1874, their son George started the Broadmoor Farm with purebred Jersey cattle, which became widely famous throughout the United States and sold for as much as $1,500. Many earned highest honors from the American Jersey Cattle Club.
