Seagull 2020

This acrylic painting was inspired by an experience my niece Grace and I had last June at Broad Cove. We love to paddle board out to the Nubbin, which is always covered in seagulls and has an osprey nest at the top of its lone tree. On this day, we came around the back of this tiny island and Grace spotted a seagull tangled in fishing line. It was on it’s side, exhausted with it’s mate standing next to it. We managed to get the gull in hand and flagged down a passing boat, since we did not have a knife. The family in the boat helped cut the line and we freed the bird.

We still talk about that bird and hope he made a full recovery. One of my silver linings of 2020 was that I dedicated more time to painting. My current favorite style is comprised of modern, colorful images of Maine wildlife especially the creatures I see so close to home.
