Silas Rideout's House and Workshop
Silas Rideout had a carriage business in a shop beside his home. Surviving receipts from the 1850s and 1860s show Rideout also furnished coffins in Cumberland.
His house, built around 1820, was first the home of an elderly Quaker. Later, the place was used as a schoolhouse where Jane Wilson taught.
In 1827, the first actual schoolhouse was built opposite the church and Silas Rideout bought this house, set up his carriage business next door, and lived here for the rest of his life.
