James McManus
My name is James McManus. I was born and raised in Cumberland (North Yarmouth), and currently reside in Cumberland Foreside. I am an amateur copper and silversmith, making jewelry and artwork here in Maine.
Maine Triptych was made using recycled copper sheet which I cut by hand. I used vinegar and salt to create green patina for one Maine outline. To me this piece represents the woods and forests I grew up playing, camping, and hunting in. The middle outline is raw copper buffed to a high shine for contrast. For the third, I used ammonia and salt to create a blue patina. This represents the waters of Maine I grew up swimming and fishing in.
Driftwood Boat is a driftwood and copper schooner, which I made from recycled copper and a piece of driftwood that my son found at Broad Cove. I love the way the copper and wood complement each other. It again represents my love for the ocean and the nature that I am surrounded by here in Cumberland.
Maine Wind Chime is one of the first copper pieces I started making. It is a fully handmade copper wind chime. The bell, chain, clapper, and sail are all formed from recycled copper, and left raw outside to naturally oxidize in the elements.
