My name is Kelli and I am an artist living in Cumberland. I am also an art instructor for the Adult Community Education Program here in town and teach classes online.
My art is done primarily in watercolor and Chinese Brush. I have a passion for painting birds, botanicals, and landscapes. In all of my work I strive to capture the spirit of my subjects, not just a likeness.
Bird and Blossoms is painted in the Chinese Brush style using ink and watercolor. This style uses simple brushstrokes to convey the essence of a subject, rather than an exact likeness. The blossoms in this painting are plum blossoms, which represent resilience as they bloom in winter. The painting uses traditional ink for the branches and bird, and traditional Alizarin Crimson for the blossoms. I have added a modern twist by including small leaves.
